“In a gentle way, you can shake the world.”- Mahatma Gandhi

As we see it, even one drop of salt can add taste to a dry cup of porridge. So, whether it is finding the best solution for a customer or supporting local development, we want to do our part to make things better. The goodwill and positive vibrations created in our local communities is the most compelling factor that keeps us going.

On many mornings, you can find Nipun pushing a cart full of Manioc to the local market with contagious enthusiasm —his rugged strength and grit veiled, under a timid smile. He grew up in the make-shift shanties right across Light House Ministries, a faith-based organization, that serve  communities in Central Sri Lanka.

Nipun’s community is made up of dozen struggling families that fight poverty and erosion due to rising water levels of Sri Lanka’s (largest) Mahaweli river. His father, a longstanding member of Lighthouse Church, is a local vegetable vendor and a faithful elder of the church.

Although his standard exam results weren’t promising, his commitment to service opened up the opportunity to attend Bible School this September. At the age of 19, he is currently the part-time custodian of Light House Church and supports children’s ministries in the surrounding communities.

Sri Lanka is a paradise island with thousands of aspiring youth like Nipun, with raw talent and potential waiting to be discovered. LankanSapphires like to support organizations and individuals with positive goals and visions. As we see it, even one drop of salt can add taste to a dry cup of porridge. So, whether it is finding the best solution for a customer, or supporting development, we want to do our part to make things better. After all, it is the goodwill and positive vibrations created by our efforts that fuel our everyday passions.

We wish Nipun a bright future. Thank you Light House Ministries for your dedication to building-up impoverished youth all over Sri Lanka.
